Justification
By Pastor Don Bell
Justification by faith is a cardinal doctrine of Holy Scripture. It is believed and loved by those who know it an understand it. They know that they are first JUSTIFIED BY GOD.
He is the source, as all things are of God, so we start where justification starts with God.
“Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect, it is God that justifieth”?
It is a legal act of God, He declares the sinner righteous on the basis of the Righteousness of the Lord Jesus. “God made him to be sin who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God IN HIM” 2 Cor.5:21. It is in Gods sight we are justified Gal. 3:11.
It is not an act of renewal or process over a period of time.
Let me give you four blessed facts of Justification.
1. Justification removes the guilt of sin; it restores the sinner to all the rights of a child of God, including an eternal inheritance. He is now a son of God, the Spirit of the Son is in his heart and he cries Abba Father.
2. Justification takes place outside the sinner in the tribunal of God. God purposed to justify his people; Christ accomplished our justification when he rose again from the dead, “He was delivered for our offences raised again for our justification” (Rom. 4:25) “that God might be just and justifier of him that believeth.” (Rom. 3:26)
3. Justification takes place once for all, it isn’t repeated, and it isn’t a process. It is complete at once and for all time. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, grace reigns through righteousness unto eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom. 8:1-5:21).
4. Believers are justified freely by his grace Rom. 3:24. Apart from our works, any supposed law keeping, or any merit. When God says freely that is exactly how he justifies his people, without any cause being found in them, without any payment from them.
“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost…That being justified by his grace, we should made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” (Tit. 3:5-7)
Never under any circumstance, for any reason are we regarded as righteous or justified before God except only through Gods grace in Christ our Lord! Freely means freely!
