Jesus is the Creator …That Means He Is God
by Miles McKee
Have you ever noticed how John says the Word created everything? He writes,
“All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” Jn 1:3
But wait a minute! Doesn’t the Bible say God created everything? Yes, indeed, it was God who created everything. The Bible attests to this truth in many places. Here are but a few.
Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Gen 1:21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moves.
Gen 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Gen 2:4 -----in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,
Isa 45:18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.
ISA 40:28 ‘Have you not known? have you not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
Mal 2:10 Have we not all one father? has not one God created us?
So follow the logic here. The Bible says God created all things. It also says Christ Jesus created all things. Therefore, if Jesus is not God we have two creators. Conversely, if we have only one creator and Jesus Christ is not He, then the Bible is wrong and inaccurate. Take your pick, either Jesus is God or the Bible is not reliable. It becomes clear, however, when we study the Scriptures, that Jesus and God are one and the same. The Bible tells us God created all things and at the same time tells us Jesus created all things.
Listen to the Apostle Paul,
“For by him (Jesus) were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” (Col 1:16-17)
What Paul is telling us in these verses is that Christ created and sustains all things. In the light of this scripture how can anyone say He is not God? If He is not God, what exactly is God doing with His time? How does he occupy Himself? He is obviously in retirement or on the golf course for someone else is sustaining the universe and doing His job for Him!
Furthermore, notice also how Paul, in this verse, says that Christ ‘IS’ before all things---not ‘came to be’ before all things. Paul is telling us that Christ Jesus always ‘is’. And the One who ‘is before all things’, the Lord Jesus Christ, is the same one who created all things and is therefore God.
It should also be noted that the Jehovah Witnesses (JW’s) re-wrote this scripture and tell us that at some point in eternity Jesus was created and then as the agent of Jehovah He created all other things. The Bible, however, knows nothing of this for note how it simply says that all things were created by Jesus. If Jesus was created He is, according to this verse, a “thing”. But the Bible tells us that all “things” were created by the Lord Jesus. So to be consistent with their theory, the JW’s then would have to admit that Jesus created Himself. That would be a very challenging feat for anyone to believe never mind accomplish.
But still they come back at us insisting that indeed Jesus was God’s agent in the creation. Try telling that one to Isaiah! In Isa. 44:24 we read,
“I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretches forth the heavens alone; that spreads abroad the earth by myself;”
Notice, how the Lord Jehovah has no junior partner in His marvelous enterprise of creation.. Jehovah clearly states that He Himself created the heavens without the aid or agency of any other.
We must conclude therefore, either the Bible is lying to us when it tells us that Christ Jesus created all things or it is telling us that Jesus and God are one and the same.
“By his own power were all things made;
By him supported all things stand;
He is the whole creation’s head,
And angels fly at his command.”
Isaac Watts
All Things Were Created For Him---that means He is God
The Apostle Paul wrote the following about Jesus:
“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:” (Col. 1:16).
Notice how that all things were created for Him! For Whom? For Him-- Jesus! All things were created for Jesus! This means He is God. We say this, not only because of the logic of the statement but also because the Old Testament tells us that all things were created for Yahweh!
“The LORD (Yahweh) hath made all things for himself.” Proverbs 16:4
The one for whom all things were created is the one who created all things. The one for whom all things were created is the one who is before all things. The one for whom all things were created is the one by whom all things consist; the one for whom all things are created is the head of the church the Lord Jesus Christ, the God/Man the divine human savior. As the mighty Adam Clarke says,
“----the text says that all things were made BY him and FOR him, which is a demonstration that the apostle understood Jesus Christ to be truly and essentially God.
(Clarke’s Commentaries: Colossians 1)
