Text Box: GETTING INTO HEAVEN BEFORE
THEY CLOSE THE DOOR
 BY MILES McKEE

PEOPLE GET READY!!
The door to Heaven will soon be closing. According to many ancient Hebrew prophesies the shutting of this door will be both shocking and sudden. But for those, however, who are ready, the close of Heaven's door will be a most welcome event.

SHUT IN OR SHUT OUT!!!
Did you ever hear the story of Noah and the Big Boat? The boat was called the Ark and the closing of its door meant, for some, being shut in: for others the same closed door meant they were shut out.............Shut in or shut out!!!! --------Where will you be when the Door to Heaven closes------shut in or shut out?

Do you have an imagination? If you do, then for this next few moments let it loose as we look into this vital matter of getting into Heaven before they close the door.

DESTINATION - HEAVEN
Let's imagine we could travel into the future and on out into eternity. Our first destination--Heaven. Our interest there is not to determine whether or not the streets are literally paved with gold and the sea made of crystal. No, rather, our one purpose is to interview the inhabitants of the Celestial City and to ask them what kind of people they were when on earth.

911...... WHERE ARE THE COPS?
Here we go then, on to the future traveling faster than the speed of time till in an instant, as it were, we arrive at our amazing destination. The people here say that it is an incredible place. There are no hospitals, for no-one here ever gets sick. There are no cemeteries, for no-one here ever dies. There is no police force for there is no crime. There’s no hate, no violence and no bigotry.

WHAT IN HEAVEN’S NAME ARE YOU DOING HERE?
As we get a chance to talk to the people and to ask them what kind of people they were on Earth, the one thought that strikes us is that these folk are not the type of people we would have thought would be in Heaven. Here are a few of their comments:

¨	"I was a prostitute, I sold myself to men every night, I was a hopeless case".
¨	"I was a drug addict, I was another hopeless case with no power to set myself free"
"I was a thief. Nothing was safe from me. I would have taken the teeth out of your head if I had had a chance."
"I was a rip-off-artist. If I had had a chance to swindle you in business I would have done it. If I could walk all over you I'd have put on spiked boots just for the occasion"
"I was a murderer. I had so much hate brewing in me that one day it just boiled over and I killed a man. That was hard but the next time I killed it was easier"
"I was a leader in the gay rights movement. Year after year I was one of the main advocates for the homosexual life style."
"I was a fornicator and adulterer. I never saw a woman that I didn't want. All shapes and sizes were welcome."
"I was a liar. I loved to deceive people. If there was a right way and a wrong way to do things I usually opted for the wrong."
"I was an alcoholic, I started young but eventually found out that one shot of whiskey was too much and a thousand not enough"
"I was a clergyman, mind you that didn't help. I always thought impure thoughts, my prayers lacked faith, my repentance was so shallow it needed to be repented of. My sermons left a lot to be desired and my service for the Lord was always hampered by mixed motives. The only thing I ever did well and consistently for God was to fail Him"

WHERE HAVE ALL THE GOOD GUYS GONE?
On and on their stories go. They are people from all walks of life and all races, classes, colors and creeds. At this point you might be asking if we've in fact taken a detour, by-passed Heaven, and come to Hell. Those kinds of people surely aren't material for Heaven!
I know what you mean! Did you notice the one striking feature they all held in common was that none of them claimed to have been good. That is odd, for surely it is good people who go to Heaven. Well isn’t it? But we can't stop now for the bus is leaving. We are moving on and this time we really are going to visit the folks ‘down below’.

A HELL OF A PLACE
When we look around we are struck by the impression that this place looks more like a lake of fire than the caverns of the damned. There are no little demons with pitch forks tormenting everyone, in fact the word on the street is that this place was created for their punishment and that the deepest part of the burning lake is where they and their boss, the Prince of Darkness, have been thrown. We get to interview quite a good cross section of inmates and here are a few of the answers to the big question - “What were you like when you were on the earth”?

¨	"I was a farmer. Somebody once told me that I fed my soul on corn for I'd very little interest in anything other than tearing down old barns and building bigger ones as my prosperity increased. Mind you I was a good neighbor and upstanding citizen. Then one night I heard a voice saying "Fool, this night thy soul is required of Thee" and I ended here.
¨	"I was a religious leader of my people. I taught them what to do and what not to do. I was very strict and always separated myself from those who were doing wrong. I can't understand why I'm here for I was a model citizen".
¨	"I was a business man and an officer in the church. I was a good husband and father. I never did anything really bad and certainly never hurt anyone".
"I was a philanthropist. I made a point of always giving. In fact two hospitals and one college are named after me. I tried to, and think it's safe to say that I succeeded to, make the world a better place".
"I was a murderer but I never killed anyone who
didn't deserve it. I mean I never killed in cold blood. They had to provoke me first. I mean like I never just walked up to someone and shot them. They had to be in a rival gang for me to do that".
