PASSED WITH FLYING COLORS
We are all natural born sinners and that alone qualified us for Hell. Doing bad things will not put us into Hell. We were all going there anyway because of how we were born. We were born sinners and that sin within our nature gives birth to sins. Sin is the parent .........sins are the children:
DANCING IN THE DARK
We sin because we are sinners. Sins (plural) will most certainly be punished in Hell but we qualified for the place way before we first blotted our copy book.
We are born lost and blind with no hope of finding our way in the dark Our destination--sure and certain judgment unless someone comes to our rescue.
SHOCK HORROR!! THE TRUTH HURTS.
Now for the next truth........................................................................................................
Doing good will not take you to Heaven!! Perhaps it comes as a shock to you to hear that doing good things will not get you to heaven. I mean surely that's what religion is all about.........isn't it? Yes it is, but who ever said religion could get you to Heaven? God didn't say that. Some man somewhere thought that one up and we've been fed it ever since.
GOD WAS WASTING HIS TIME...
To say that our good deeds can take us to heaven means one of two things....................
(a) either God's standards are so low we can attain them in and of ourselves (which is just another way of cutting God down to our size) or that
(b) our works are so pure that they can transport us to the heights and habitation of the Holy One of eternity ( that’s pride and arrogance...plain and simple)
GOD HAS A PROBLEM?
God’s biggest problem in getting people into Heaven is their righteousness not their sins. Again I think I hear some one ask “What do you mean by righteousness?” Hey thanks for asking! What I mean is thinking we are impressing God with how good we are. But if we only knew how Holy and pure God that compared to Him our goodness does not amount to a hill of beans . “Oh yeah”? ....Yeah!!!! It is righteousness which so often gets in the way and keeps people out of Heaven and not sins.
FILTHY RAGS........THE GAP?
Let me tell you a wee secret....God doesn’t like filthy rags. He warned us in Isaiah 64:6 that in His estimation man's righteousness is like a filthy rag. Our trouble is that we don't want to believe that. We want to impress God with how good we are. But He remains terribly unimpressed, the gap between God and us is too great.
OLYMPIC LONG JUMPER MISSED THE MARK!
Getting into Heaven with our righteousness is like trying to leap across the Grand Canyon. Some people are better than others at the long jump. Some can jump 4 feet, some maybe 14 feet, some even more. But what is the difference? No one can make the leap required across the Grand Canyon. Okay you may be a better person than your neighbor - God won't dispute that but the best you have got is a fourteen foot jump compared to your neighbors 4 foot jump. Your neighbor may even be so lousy that he can't even jump 1 foot. God won't debate the point --- but so what? Neither of you can make the leap required. You both fall short along with the rest of us.
STILL HANGING IN THERE?
If you are still with me at this stage and have not been offended then there is a good chance of getting you into Heaven before they shut the door. So hang in there!!
GOOD NEWS FOR BAD GUYS
"Well" you say, "I don't think there is much of a chance of getting to Heaven for I am a bad person - I am not suitable material for God’s home". If that is what you are thinking then I have some really good news for you. The truth is this that the Gospel is not just good news, it is good news for bad people. Jesus didn't come to call the ones who think they are righteous to repentance. No He came to call sinners to trust on Him.
THE GOODIES
That is why Hell is full of “good” people. They couldn’t agree with God's estimation of their righteousness. They never came to a point in their life when they found themselves destitute towards God. If ever they did realize the distance between themselves and God they tried to close it by some spiritual observation or activity. In reality all they were doing was falling back on religion, but religion cannot get anyone to Heaven.
THE DOORWAY TO HEAVEN
The door to heaven is open at the moment, but it will soon be closed. But where is this door? How can we find it? Again here some good news. Heaven's door is a person not a place. Jesus announced this to his disciples in John 10:7,9 when he said "I am the Door." Now, as we’ve already said, a door is something which shuts some people in but shuts others out. We will be shut in or out of Heaven by how we relate to Jesus.
CAN YOU DO IT ALONE?
Jesus Christ came to this earth because we could not close the gap between ourselves and Heaven. The astonishing truth is that He was not just an angel or a created being, He was God - our God and Creator. (Check it out in the Bible in John 1:1, 1Timothy 3:16 and Colossians 1:16)
